Bladen Springs community

Vonnie Rae White Guyton, 88, of the Bladen Springs community went home to be with our Lord on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Vonnie Rae was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ernest Cooper Guyton; her parents, Stanley and Blanchie White of the Western Prong community of Columbus County; her in-laws, James and Mable Guyton of the Bladen Springs community; three brothers: Virgil, Thurman, and Bobby White of Columbus County and one sister, Myrtle Wright of Columbus County.

She is survived by two brothers: James White of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Kenneth White of Columbus County; her sons: Ernest Ronald (Ron) and wife Deborah of Elizabethtown, Larry Stanley and wife Judy of Bladen Springs; her loving daughter Anne Marie Sasser and husband Michael of Elizabethtown; Steven Holland (Steve) and wife June of White Lake. She was blessed with seven beautiful grandchildren: Samantha Hatfield (Chris), Morgan Smith (Kendall), Michael Guyton, Stanley Sasser (Julie), Christopher Sasser (Natlie), Wesley Sasser (Ashley), Izma Guyton Brush (Greg), who gave her fifteen even more beautiful great-grandchildren. She also had many loving nieces and nephews and their children.

Vonnie Rae was a homemaker for many years. In later years, she worked outside the home at The Shoe Box and B.C. Moore’s Department store in Elizabethtown where she was known as the “shoe lady” and made many, many friends over the years. She was an active member of the Gray Moss Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association and participated for many years with the programs sponsored by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Services Home Demonstration Clubs including the Bladen Springs chapter. Vonnie Rae was an active member of Carvers Creek United Methodist Church and in later years also joined the Elizabethtown Baptist Church.

She will be remembered as a strong Christian who loved her family and friends and always had smiles, hugs and kisses ready for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her home was a warm and welcoming place, her cooking was legendary and her seven layer chocolate cake will never be equaled. To have shared her life was to love her and cherish her. She will always be in the hearts of her family and friends and those she touched in her life.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lumberton Health and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they took of our beloved “Gagi” for the past few years.

The family will hold a private graveside service at Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 12:30pm. The family will receive friends and neighbors at the home of Larry and Judy Guyton (11017 NC Hwy 87 East, Council, NC) at 2:00 pm.
