Steve Warren Evers, age 67, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Linda Evers, son Cody Evers and wife Krisna, daughter, Kimberly Lackey, grandchildren, Waylon Evers, Caydelin Lackey and Austin Lackey, sister, Carolyn Dowless and husband Steve, sister-in-law Robyn Wilson and husband Tony, and his constant companion & fur buddy, Harry. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Evers, his mother, Virginia Evers Dean, his son-in-law, Adam Lackey, his brother, Wayne Evers, and his grandparents, Allen, and Ida Evers and Pink and Virginia Allen.
Steve was born in Bladen County, North Carolina on February 18, 1954. He attended Bladenboro High School before spending time in Florida. When he returned to NC, he married and chose a career in construction. He traveled throughout the United States working many years for Flour Daniel Corporation, Frito-Lay, Inc., and various other construction companies.
Steve enjoyed fishing, antiquing and picking, collecting coins, trips to the NC and TN mountains, and taking his fur buddy, Harry, on rides in his truck. His favorite pastime was watching westerns and reruns of The Andy Griffith Show. Steve cherished time spent with his grandchildren. He loved hearing his youngest grandson, Waylon, laugh and his heart would melt when he would reach out for him. He looked forward to visits from his out-of-town grandchildren, Caydelin (“KK”) and Austin. “Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
Steve fought a tough fight and we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. We will all miss him more than words can say.
A memorial service will be held at the New Pait Cemetery near 3358 Center Road in Bladenboro at 11am on Saturday, December 4, 2021. Reverend Quentin Boyce will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Steve Warren Evers Funeral Fund, c/o Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 3150 Elizabethtown, NC 28337
