Patricia Walker

April 29, 1950 — June 14, 2019

Emblem

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Ms. Patricia Bonnell Walker entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 14 surrounded by her family. Ms. Walker was a remarkable woman, an unwavering public servant who truly lived her life for others. She was a Christian woman who embodied the teaching of Christ to love your neighbor as yourself. She believed and often quoted the scripture, “Judge not lest you be judged.” (Matthew 7:1)

She was tirelessly devoted to her beloved family: her loving mother: Mrs. Dallas Walker; her two sisters: Pam Tatum and Deborah Guyton and their husbands Ed Tatum and Ron Guyton; her nieces and nephews, Izma Guyton Brush and Greg, Walker Tatum, Winston Tatum, Charlotte Tatum Martin and Bridger, James Littrell and Jace Brush, and many other children she cared for in the community. She will be remembered for her selflessness and unfailing generosity.

Ms. Walker’s life calling was to be an educator. She attended Methodist College and earned her Masters Degree at East Carolina University. She served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal at her beloved Elizabethtown Primary School for thirty-two years. Following her retirement, she taught early childhood education classes at Bladen Community College for several years, and served on the Bladen County Board of Education for twelve years.

At the Elizabethtown Primary School, Ms. Walker mentored many principals and teachers. For years her school sponsored a Boy Scout Troop, and she helped with Girl Scouts. In a school of a thousand students, she knew them by name and greeted them as they entered. She dried many tears and filled many needs, never worrying about herself.

She was a true and wonderful daughter caring for her mother above all else. As a sister, she offered advice and encouragement and shared lots of laughs and secrets. Many holiday cards were stuffed for nieces and nephews who found a constant buddy in Aunt Nell. From pulling their baby teeth to fixing elaborate holiday meals, she was a true blessing to her family.

Her sweet spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Ms. Bonnell Walker was predeceased by one sister Roxanne Walker, her father Floyd Walker, one brother Stephen Walker and his wife Susan Ipock, and many special co-workers.

A memorial to the Life of Bonnell Walker will be held at Trinity UMC in Elizabethtown, NC on Tuesday, June 18, at two o’clock.

In place of flowers, please make gifts to Trinity UMC Chancel Choir or Trinity UMC Old Trinity Restoration Fund.
