Obituary

Merle Gooden Miller, 90, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2021. She was born on November 3, 1930 in Elizabethtown, NC to the late Carl and Evelyn Gooden. She attended business school in Charlotte, NC and worked 12 years with Celanese Corporation. She retired after 35 years with the GE Lighting Division in Charlotte. Merle was an active member of Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church with special interest in mission work. Her love for children and connection with them was a gift. She enjoyed nature, tennis, beach trips and most of all time with family and friends. 

Merle is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Miller and brother, John Gooden. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Johnson and son in law, Phil of Canton, GA; son, Ray Miller of South Weber, UT; granddaughter, Shannon Miller Frith and husband, Corey of Spring, TX; granddaughter, Lauren Porterfield and husband, Tim of Roswell, GA; great grandchildren: Marissa Miller, Hunter Porterfield and Walker Porterfield; sisters: Doris Cook, Florence Cox, Nadine Evans, and Marsha Faucette as well as many nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID, a Memorial Service will not be held until Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 10:00am in the Bladen Memorial Gardens, Elizabethtown, NC. The family wishes to thank Addington Place of Alpharetta for helping with Merle's care.
