Mary Kern

Mary Paul Johnson Kern, 91, of Lumberton passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lawrence Johnson and Johnnie Singletary Johnson; husband, Robert Kern; sister, Katherine Johnson; two brothers: Patrick and Lyn Johnson. Mary leaves behind her sister, Betsy Johnson Reep of Huntsville, AL; nine nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.

Mary attended and graduated from Bladenboro High School Class of 1944. She also attended and graduated from King’s Business College in Charlotte, NC. On April 19, 1975, Mary married the love of her life Robert Henry Kern in the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC. Reading, singing and playing bridge were just a few of her hobbies. She retired to the southeastern coast, namely, Sunset Beach, NC in 1991 and in May 1994 moved to Little River, SC. Mary was an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and a life member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority.

The family will receive friends at 1:30pm on Sunday, December 29th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with a funeral service at 2pm with Rev. Merle Johnson officiating services. Burial will follow services in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Bladenboro.
