Marshall Bordeaux Sr.

Marshall “Arthur” Bordeaux, 87, died early Monday morning, February 9th, 2021, at the home of his son in Apex, North Carolina.

Arthur was born and spent most of his life on Bladen County soil, just outside of Dublin, where his Daddy, Marshall Bishop Bordeaux farmed the land and his Mama, Kathleen “Kate” Haire Bordeaux made their home. He grew into the values of hard work and commitment to God, family, neighbor, and country. As a child, Arthur was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church of Dublin. Later his parents, along with others founded Dublin First Baptist Church where he attended for the remainder of his formative years.

After completing high school at Tar Heel, Arthur joined the Army in 1953 at age 19 and spent 2 years serving his country during the time of the Korean war, although his service did not place him in combat. He was honorably discharged in April 1955. Upon his return home, Arthur began to build a career with the State of North Carolina, working most of his 30 years of service as a NC Drivers License examiner and having short periods as a highway patrol dispatcher and as a weight and theft officer. He retired from the state and continued to work locally running a small store in Dublin; working to build the Cogentrics plant in Elizabethtown and other residential building projects; and working in quality control at Houston’s Peanuts until his full retirement in 1998.

Arthur married Nancy Elaine Duncan from Elizabethtown on June 2, 1963. They were the last couple to be married at the old Elizabethtown Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Wallace. They first lived in Fayetteville, then in Elizabethtown before restoring an old home on his parent’s land in Dublin in 1976. The land of his childhood continued to be “home” for him and Nancy and their two sons, Marshall Arthur “Art” Bordeaux, Jr. (born September 25, 1964) and Mark Duncan Bordeaux (born October 8, 1966). Arthur and Nancy faithfully attended Elizabethtown Baptist Church throughout their 57 years of marriage.

Arthur is survived by his wife Nancy and his sons and their families, Art Bordeaux and his wife Carla Rein Bordeaux who live in Murrells Inlet South Carolina and Mark Bordeaux and his wife Elizabeth “Beth” Warren Bordeaux who live in Apex North Carolina. He is also survived by his grandchildren (children of Mark and Beth), Mark “Duncan” Bordeaux, Jr. and his fiancé Fiona Woods Dunn who live in Raleigh, NC and Lane Elizabeth Bordeaux AbuAhmad and her husband Salaheldein AbuAhmad who live in Greensboro, NC.

A private service will be held at Elizabethtown Baptist Church for immediate family only. A graveside service, open to family and friends, will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Grimes-Tatum Cemetery, across the street from 5260 Owen Hill Road, Tar Heel, NC 28392. The family requests all guests please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

The family extends their deepest love and appreciation for all their friends and loved ones who have shared cards, food, phone calls and support. They are thankful for the caregiving support of Carolyn Ballard, Tammy Lessane, and Sheana Taylor as well as hospice services from Liberty (Elizabeththown) and Transitions Life Care (Raleigh).
