Joyce Monk

Alma “Joyce” Monk, age 68, of Bladenboro passed away peacefully on January 30, 2023 while at UNC Southeastern in Lumberton. She was born in Cumberland County on June 14, 1954, daughter of the late Joseph Mark Monk and Margaret Ward Monk.  Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Shirley Ann Monk Gurkin and husband Larry M. Gurkin. She is survived by her aunt Glenda Ward of Bladenboro,  nephews, Mark Gurkin (Melissa) of Greenville, SC, and Scott Gurkin (Lynn) of Simpsonville, SC, great nephews, Noah, Justin and Chase Gurkin and great niece Peyton Gurkin.

Joyce was a loveable, humble lady. She enjoyed bowling, listening to music, especially the “oldies” and watching old movies. As a young girl, she won “The Twist” dance contest at school. Joyce’s bright smile and energy brought much joy to those around her.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023 in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fayetteville with the Reverend Charlie Tatum officiating.
