Jonathan Hair

March 21, 1944 — July 2, 2021

Laurinburg

Jonathan Daniel Hair, 77, an US Army veteran, of Laurinburg passed away Friday, July 2, 2021 at Moore Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin C. Hair, mother, Geneva Melvin Hair and sister, Hilda Atkinson.

Jonathan leaves behind his wife, Patsy Revels Hair of the home; three sons: Jonathan Ray Hair of Ft. Myers, FL, Brian K. Hair of Atlanta, GA, Alvin C. Hair (Lynne) of Matthews, NC; daughter, Robin Hair McEuen ( Phillip) of Clearwater, FL; grandchildren: Jacob Hair, Jordan Hair, Elijah McEuen, Jon Luke McEuen and Thatcher Hair; brother, Robert Hair of Winter Springs, FL and sister, Billie McLaughlin of Elizabethtown, NC.

In his dying breath, Jonathan “Johnny” Daniel Hair, spoke the words he lived by to his wife of 56 years, Patsy Hair, “I love you. I have always loved you.” Born on March 21st, 1944, 77 years ago, in Elizabethtown, NC to Alvin Currie and Geneva Melvin Hair, he was the baby boy of their four children.  Born with polio, he was lovingly carried everywhere until by God’s goodness he was miraculously healed at age 6. Johnny loved his newfound freedom. He wandered all over Bladen County – and beyond – at first by walking, then driving which was his favorite pastime.

At the age of 21, Johnny gazed at the woman of his dreams, Patsy, where he immediately announced he would marry her. They married on March 16th, 1965 and spent the next 26 years serving in the Army all over the world until he retired honorably in 1989.

Along the way, he became the fearless father of four children: Jonathan Ray, Brian Kent, Alvin Currie and Robin Lynn. He loved his children as fiercely and with as much dedication as he did his wife. He was the father who never missed a game, volunteered at his children’s sporting events, and took his beloved kids on crazy adventures from country concerts to skiing the Swiss Alps. He was the proud papa of five grandchildren, of whom he often boasted, loved on, and gave Hershey bars as often as possible.

Saved by God’s grace, Johnny was active in his church serving whenever he was called upon and wherever there was a need. As often is the case, he worshipped the Lord through acts of service to his brothers in Christ, serving the youth, cleaning the building, mowing the lawn, running the soundboard, leading Sunday School,  serving as a Deacon, and faithfully tithing. He loved the Lord with all his heart, with all his mind, and will all his soul.

Beyond his family and church, his next great love was his infamous friends in Elizabethtown and Laurinburg, with whom he would have breakfast, then join them on frequent escapades. Johnny loved gathering with them to eat, talk, laugh and support one another in the challenges and triumphs of life. Johnny and his friends took road trips and ran errands, returning with stories that will last a lifetime. Love for his heavenly Father, wife, family and friends defined his life; Johnny’s final act of love came when he ran into the arms of the author of love, his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 2, 2021.

The family will receive friends from 11:00-11:45am on Tuesday, July 6th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown followed by a funeral service at 12pm. Burial will follow services in the Tatum Cemetery in Dublin, NC.

For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21, ESV
