Eunice Bordeaux

October 22, 1923 — May 19, 2020

Eunice Hayes Bordeaux 96; entered into heaven May 19, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents Pearlie and Ethel Hayes, her husband, Tharp Bordeaux and her son Floyd Hayes Bordeaux. She had two brothers, David and Maxie Hayes and one sister, Julie Bordeaux. She left behind her son, Clyde Ashley Bordeaux and wife, Teresa, daughter-in-law, Cindy Bordeaux, two granddaughters; Sara Bordeaux Hunter and husband, Brandon, Rachel Bordeaux Deaton and husband, Brian, and two grandsons; Archie Julius Bordeaux and Tharp Ashley Bordeaux and wife, Amber, and 6 great grandchildren. She had a special relationship with her nieces and nephews.

Eunice was born on a farm near Lake View, SC. Her family moved to Bladen County when she was young. On the farm, Eunice rose early, milked cows, and walked across the creek to work in the fields. In Wilmington, she fulfilled her dream of going to nursing school to become a registered nurse. In 1945, she returned home, and Tharp returned from the war in France and they soon married. In the early years, she worked at the hospital and later with Dr R L Summerlin in Dublin. She had a quiet way and a gentle touch. For those in need of care but unable to go to the clinic, Eunice would go into the homes to give shots and change dressings.

At home, she always had prepared food for her family. She made the softest biscuits with the indentations of her fingers in the top of each one. The boys remembered when she made biscuits, three times a day. It would take a lot of biscuits, homemade butter and syrup to fill up Floyd’s long hallow legs. Clyde stayed only a phone call away and made sure she had her newspaper every morning. Eunice was known for her pound cakes, pecan pies, pot of peas and yummy chicken and dressing dish.

Eunice and Tharp were charter members of a Dublin First Baptist Church. Eunice was a Sunday School teacher and looked after the “little fellas” in the baby nursery.
In recent days, Eunice told her family members to thank everyone for their love, visits, calls and cards. She loved her family and many friends. She was kind, and gentle and always had good things to say of everyone.
