Erla Peterson

Mrs. Erla Sue Langley Peterson, 91 of Bay Tree Lake passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021.

She was born on May 23, 1929 to the late Albert Earl and Susan Mosser Langley in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Waynesburg University with a degree in Music, Erla Sue moved unaccompanied to eastern North Carolina. There she taught school, raised a family and held the office of secretary in the family owned poultry business. Erla Sue was a great lover of music, the performing arts and volunteering. A woman of faith, she spent much of her time sharing her talents as the Youth Choir Director at Siloam Baptist Church.  She was a great believer in volunteerism and donated much of her time back to the communities she lived in. Volunteering at the State Capital, Wake Med Hospital and most recently Bladen County Hospital. She adored her family and the time she spent with them.

Mrs. Peterson is survived by her son, William C. Peterson II and wife Peggy of Matthews; her daughter, Thea P. Harrelson and husband Lenox of Bay Tree Lake; three granddaughters, Danielle MacLaughlin and husband Phillip; Nicole Norris and husband Thomas; Emily Peterson and a great grandson, Charlie MacLaughlin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband William C. Peterson; two brothers, Darlton and Jay S. Langley; two sisters, Wilda Jane Dills and Charlotte Gleason.

A funeral service will be held at Siloam Baptist Church in Harrells, NC on May 22, 2021 at 11am with Reverend Tim Register officiating service. Burial will follow in the Peterson/Bowen family cemetery on Belvin Maynard Rd. Harrells, NC.
