A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Doris cherished her family, her hometown, Tar Heel and her farm life. She enjoyed tending the vegetables, the calves, the pigs, and her flower gardens. Her faith in God kept her going. She was a member of the Purdie United Methodist Church for almost 80 years. She extended a helping hand to anyone in need, taking in others and making sure they were fed. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Doris enjoyed attending their games, watching baseball, working in her yard, painting, and quilting. Her faithful little companion, Sugar was always by her side. The compassion in her heart and tenacity of hard work will live on in the legacy she leaves behind.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 17th on the grounds at the Purdie United Methodist Church in Tar Heel.  The many quilts created by Doris will be on display inside the church for viewing. A graveside service will immediately follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Alton Marshburn and Rev. Mark Gustafson. All attendees are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
