Susan Griffin Fisher

Susan Griffin Fisher, 71, of High Point, passed away January 27, 2024 at the Hospice House of High Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Christine Griffin, also of High Point.

Susan was crowned Miss High Point in 1974, the only Miss High Point to capture the Miss North Carolina title.  As Miss North Carolina, Susan traveled extensively, performing with Bob Hope, Lawrence Welk, and the USO troupe in Europe. She later recorded her beautiful pageant winning song, “With a Song in My Heart.”

Susan carried herself with pride, didn’t settle for mediocrity, and kept the world around her at high standards, as a queen should. She was honest and made it clear what her expectations were. Susan had the soul of an old Hollywood movie star and was loved across the great state of North Carolina.

After representing North Carolina in the Miss America pageant, Susan lived in New York where she performed professionally in night clubs and was cast in the revival Broadway show, OH Kay. She returned to North Carolina where she performed for many local and state pageants.

Susan married and resided in Elizabethtown, North Carolina where she devoted her time to raising her two sons, Auburn and Luke for 40 plus years. She worked professionally assisting in local insurance and law offices. She returned home to High Point where she resided until her death.

Susan is survived by her two sons, Cole Auburn Fisher, Jr. and wife Angielette of Knoxville, Tenn., and Luther (Luke) Griffin Fisher of High Point; brother, Sidney Griffin and wife Wendy of Sophia; sister-in-law, April Lohr and husband Mike of Archdale; and brother-in-law, Scott Fisher and wife Toni of Elizabethtown.

She is also survived by special friends Kay Dickinson and David Harb of High Point, Debbie Shook Lacey of Newland, NC, and her Miss North Caroliina sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Dr. Brian Donnelly officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Miss North Carolina Education Scholarship Foundation at P.O. Box 5263 Pinehurst, NC 28374.

Susan leaves us all with her Song in our Hearts.
