Susan Carlisle Dowless, 62, of Elizabethtown passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 while at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
She leaves behind her father, Gordon Carlisle (Vicky) of Tennessee, mother Christine McIntyre (Ken) of Tennessee, beloved husband Ronald Dowless of the home, daughters Tessia Williams (Glenn) of Clarkton, and Leola C. Dowless (Dan Brookshire) of Dublin, siblings Butch Carlisle (Jeanette) of Tennessee, Ben Carlisle (Azima) of Florida, Joel Carlisle of Idaho, Robin Friedrichs of Tennessee, Jordan Delius (Tad) of Tennessee, and Bethany Gay (Eric) of Delaware, and two grandchildren Bailey Williams and Colin Taylor.
Susan was a natural born teacher. She taught third grade for 31 years at the St. Pauls Elementary School in St. Pauls NC. Her life was devoted to both her family and her students. She always saw the best of everyone regardless of color. Students often came to class without everyday items often taken for granted but she always tried to make sure they left with more than they came with. She provided a safe, rewarding haven for each of them. Susan loved the holidays and enjoyed them most when entertaining at her home. She would get upset if she didn’t get to do that for her family and friends. Susan loved shopping, going to the beach, eating out at a good restaurant and getting lost in a good book. She will be remembered always for her genuine love, loyalty, and concern for others.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, May 31st at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 2 pm in the Dublin Cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her dear sister-in-law, Pearl Strole, for the utmost love and care given to Susan during her illness. They will forever be grateful for all her help.
