Shirley Batton Smith, 69, of Bladenboro passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She was born and raised in Bladen County on March 2, 1955.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Batton and Frances Packer Batton, her father, George Ray, her first husband Delton Guyton, brothers Ralph and Jimmy Batton, and one granddaughter Olivia Smith. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband Gerald Smith of the home, son Christopher Smith (Kim) of Hartwell, GA, three daughters Andrea Singletary (Isaac) of Bladenboro, Christy Horrell (Dean) of Whiteville, and Miranda Yarborough (Quentin) of Florence, four sisters Sheila Harrison (Mike) of Sanford, Paula Rodgers (Richie) of Bladenboro, Vonda Hester of Bladenboro, and Debbie Beckett (Kenny) of Wisconsin, and six grandchildren Zachary Horrell, Isaac Singletary, Penelope Yarborough, Molly Yarborough, Josh Smith and Brooke Smith.
Shirley was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She simply adored her family, especially the apples of her eye, her grandchildren. She lived a life of great faith, spending much time in the Word, at church and singing hymns. Her favorite past times include spending time with family, friends, and admiring the wonderful natural creations of this world. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her kind, generous spirit and her willingness to help others.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 2 pm in the Bladen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Elizabethtown. The Reverend Quentin Boyce and the Reverend Jonathan Taylor officiating.
