Sarah Atkins

Sarah Elizabeth Atkins, 79, of Clarkton passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Elizabethtown Nursing Center. She was born to the late Claudie Jackson and Sarah “McRee” Smith Jackson Vause on April 25, 1943 in Robeson County. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Clayton Atkins; stepfather, Junior Vause; daughter-in-law, Ginger Atkins and grandchild, Randy Caffee, Jr.

Sarah leaves behind four sons: Bruce Atkins Sr. and wife Sheila of Clarkton, Elbert Lee Atkins and wife Dahlia of Georgia, Rick Atkins and Chet Atkins, both of Bladenboro; special friend who was like a son, Richard Synder and wife Mae of Oklahoma; two daughters: Sarah Ann Atkins of Lisbon, Sue Parks of Wilmington; brother, Wilton Vause and wife Melody of Council; three sisters: Mary Erickson and husband Art of Cary, Joyce Ellis and husband Johnny of Acme Delco; Betty Gurganis of Atkinson; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Sarah was a church going, God-fearing lady who had a heart of gold. She is referred by her family as being the best mom in the world. She jokingly told her family on several occasions that she was still the boss. Sarah was loved by everyone and enjoyed helping others anyway she could. Her strong and compassionate spirit will be missed greatly.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday, March 6th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, March 7th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home with Pastor Lacy Norris officiating service. Burial will follow in the Mt. Horeb Church Cemetery.

At other times, the family will meet at the home of Bruce Atkins 615 White Plains Church Road Clarkton, NC 28433.
