Mr. Richard Byrd Bridgers, age 88, of Elizabethtown went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Scarbrough Bridgers and Strawdie Byrd Bridgers, two brothers, Howard and Alton Bridgers, and two sisters, Juanita Baysden and Martha Oakley. Mr. Bridgers leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Mary Anna Russ Bridgers, of the home, three sons, Richard B. Bridgers (Rhonda) of Florida, James A. “Al” Bridgers (D.J.) of Elizabethtown, and Morgan “Russ” Bridgers (Devonda) of Elizabethtown, one sister, Ronnie Rush of Clarkton, four grandchildren, Amanda Garam (Rodd), Amy Tyree (Jimmy), Sandy Bridgers (Victoria), and Zackary Bridgers, three step grandchildren, David Slabaugh (Liz), Justin Slabaugh (Joy), and Zack Donovan, eight great grandchildren Nicolette Blyth, Charlie Tyner, Corina Garcia, Yazime and Yazan Garam, Jackson, Luke, and Nora Bridgers and three step great grandchildren, Rance Slabaugh, Chase Slabaugh, and Phillip Slabaugh.
Mr. Bridgers loved his family and his community. He served Bladen County as an EMT for 20 years and as the local barber in Elizabethtown for 50 plus years. He was well known for his friendly demeanor and gentle spirit. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown. His service to the Lord, his community, and his warm smile will not soon be forgotten.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 17th from 3-4:30 pm at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown. A Memorial service honoring Mr. Bridger’s life will follow at 4:30 pm with the Reverend Lindsey Ballance Collins officiating.
