Nicholas “Joe” Joseph Laut, Jr., 83, of Elizabethtown passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Joseph Laut, Sr. and Martha Sutphen Laut; his first wife, Katherine Laut and sister, Ellen Settele.

Joe leaves behind his wife, Nora Townsend Laut of the home; son, Christopher Laut and wife Christine of Minnesota; stepsons: Edward Howell and wife Linda of Clarksville, Tennessee and Ricky Howell and wife Gerlda of Lumberton; two daughters: Julie Morgan of Somerville, New Jersey, Cindy Fischer and husband Wayne of Elizabethtown; brother, Harry Smith of Greenwood, South Carolina; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Joe loved his family dearly. He enjoyed tinkering on his old cars, going out to eat, fishing, and sitting on the front porch with his wife. His adventurous spirit will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Saturday, June 25th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Sunday, June 26th in the Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown.
