Michael "Mike" Dorian Smith

Michael “Mike” Dorian Smith, 72, of Harrells, NC passed away at his home on Thursday, July 18, 2024. He was born on September 7, 1951 in Bladen County, the son of the late Billy Smith and Frankie Long Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronnie Smith.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Melanie Pait Smith of the home, daugher Michaela Smith of the home, two brothers Don Smith (Dottie) of Harrells, Randy Smith (Doxiene) of Wilmington and one sister, Diane Skipper (Buddy) of Wilmington. 

Mike treasured the time spent with his family. He always put others first and without fail was willing to help in any capacity. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mike was also a cattleman and often made the statement, "Working on his farm was therapy." He was a cowboy at heart looking after his cows and horses. Mike worked at the Smithfield Hog Production for 24 years and worked in the hog industry for over 30 years. Mike held in high regard his co-workers and contractors he worked with in the hog industry. He was an electrician by trade and a firefighter in Wilmington for several years by choice.  Mike will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Most importantly, Mike knew Jesus as his Savior. It was very important to him to tell others about Jesus. His lasting impression of the lives he came across will forever be remembered.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 3:00 pm at the Oak Grove Original Freewill Baptist Church in Bladenboro with the Reverend Jackie Strickland officiating. A burial will follow the service in the Smith Cemetery on Mote Road in Harrells, NC.

Mike went out with his boots on.
