Mary Guyton Blackmon

Mary Guyton Blackmon, 55, of Dublin was born on February 04, 1969 in Bladen County to the late David Johnson and Betty Bell. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Norman Guyton.

Mary, also known to many as “Debbie”, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones as often as she could. She adored her husband, Guy, and her children. She treasured the annual family beach trips they took. She cared for her father, mother, and step father until they took their last breaths making sure they had the best care possible. Her most prized title was Mimi/ MaMa Mary. She loved her family with everything in her and gave them majority of her time when she was not working.

At a young age, she become a caretaker for her father, David, after his severe car accident. This is when she learned her true calling and purpose for her life. She started her Nursing profession in 2000 becoming a CNA transitioning to LPN in the same year, and in 2012 she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Davidson Community College. She worked for NHRMC as a Certified Rehab Registered Nurse for over 5 years and dedicated her time to providing devoted care to each and every patient she came in contact with. Her job caring for others did not stop when she clocked out of work each day. She spent many long days & nights caring for sick family members. Most mornings after clocking out of work, you could find her at her daughter’s house or parking lot of a church in route home to sneak a nap before going to take care of someone else. She will always be considered an angel to all that she came in contact with.

Mary was a member of Cumberland Union Baptist Church where she attended as often as she could when work schedules allowed. She loved the Lord with all her heart and made sure everyone she came in contact with knew him too. Many family members can attest to her urge for them to know the Lord and the importance of being in church, as you could always expect an invite to go with her to church on Sunday’s. We have peace knowing she is now in the arms of her Lord & Savior.

Mary leaves behind her husband, Guy Blackmon of the home; sons: Cody and Stephen Blackmon, both of Dublin; daughter, Brandi Scott and husband Tony of Wilmington; brother, Junior Guyton and wife Alice of Bladenboro; sister, Norma Jean Guyton of Elizabethtown; grandchildren: Sidney Blackmon, Lucy Blackmon, Reid Scott, Liam Blackmon and special friends, Darlene Medlin and Bessie Everette.

The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Sunday, June 23rd at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held at 12pm on Monday, June 24th at Cumberland Union Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
