Mary Allen

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith Allen, age 83, of Bladenboro, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was born in Robeson County, NC on May 23, 1937 to the late Joseph P. Smith and the late Ina Bass Smith.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Allen, Sr. (Buddy); daughter, Mary Lois Allen Dowless, and two sisters: Snead Guyton, Ina Sue Odum.

She is survived by her son, Carl Jr. and wife Ann; four grandchildren: Kelly Allen Evans (Aaron) of Oak Island, Dewayne Dowless of Bladenboro, Carla Allen Wilson (Bryan) of Nashville, NC, Carlton Dowless (Rebecca) of Bladenboro; four great-grandchildren: Carly Grace, Alanna, Harper and Ruby; two brothers: Wade Hamp Smith of Jacksonville, FL and Joseph Murray Smith (Janice) of Raleigh, NC.

Mary was a unique, hardworking lady with a sweet heart. She had a strong faith and loved the Lord and her family wholeheartedly. She retired from Danaher after 36 plus years of employment. Mary loved taking care of her flowers and will be remembered for her saying, “Bless Your Heart.”

The family will receive friends from 2-4pm on Friday, July 24th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. All attendees are asked to practice social distancing. A graveside service will be held at 10am on Saturday, July 25th in the Allen Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Miller officiating service. Following the burial, the family will receive friends at the home of Carl and Ann Allen, 2059 Marsh Road, Bladenboro, NC.
