Kathleen Floyd Edwards, 97, of Lumberton passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022. She was born on January 04, 1925 to the late Eldra M. Floyd and Augusta Blake Floyd of Fairmont, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terrence Edwards; brothers: E.M. Floyd, Jr., Lawrence Floyd, Eugene Floyd, Druid Floyd; sisters: Marguerite Floyd Shaw Lennon, Betty Floyd Hinson, Christabel Floyd Britt.
Kathleen leaves behind her daughter, Karen Kaukola and husband John Ervin Kaukola; four grandchildren: Brian Jernigan (Candice), Tara Sinclair, Natalie Horne (Lance), Shelley Jernigan; seven great-grandchildren: Alexandria Horne, Camren Jernigan, Nathan Sinclair, Emma Jernigan, Rylan Horne, Abigail Jernigan, Sydney Jernigan; sisters-in-law: Sophia Floyd and Cindy Edwards.
Her career path included working at the Federal Reserve in Washington, DC, Duke Medical School in Durham, NC, Attorneys' office in Lumberton, NC and the Employment Security Commission in Lumberton, NC from which she retired.
She served faithfully as pianist at Zion HIll Baptist Church in Bladenboro for over 60 years. She led children and youth choirs at Sandhill Baptist Church in Lumberton and then later at Zion HIll Baptist Church for many years. She loved people and believed in treating all people the same.
Special appreciation for caregiver, Dana Rankin and Community Home Care and Hospice, especially Deena Whitney, her loving nurse.
A memorial service will be held at Zion HIll Baptist Church in Bladenboro on Sunday, July 10th at 3pm. A private burial will be held.
