Katherine Hall Long, 74, of Bladenboro went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 25, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Lee Hall. Katherine is survived by her mother, Annie Hilburn Hall of Bladenboro; her loving husband Robert Long of Bladenboro, daughter Carolyn Manikas of Monroe, NC, son David Hord (Shannon) of Waxhaw, NC, two brothers, Henry Lee Hall (Elisabeth) of Columbia, SC, James Hall (Terry) of Bladenboro, sister Lula Dorsey (Paul) of Chadbourn, six grandchildren: Jonathan Wall (Whitney). Kirsten Wall Moriarty (Patrick), Lauren Manikas (Kendrick), Hannah Hord, Hayden Hord and Harrison Hord, two great grandchildren, London Wall and Hayden Baucom and many nieces and nephews.
Katherine retired from BellSouth after 33 years of service. She began her career as a switchboard operator moving from Bladenboro to Charlotte. Over the years she learned many jobs within the company and upon retirement held the position of a Circuit Layout Assigner. She volunteered many countless hours with the N.C. Chapter 35, Telephone Pioneers as a Community Service Team Member. She was also a long-term member of the Communication Workers of America, CWA Local Chapter 3603.
After retirement, she continued to make her home in Matthews where she helped with raising her grandchildren. When not working or babysitting, she enjoyed doing crafts, painting, and crocheting. Katherine later decided to leave Matthews and go back home to Bladenboro, to be close to her parents. Her family was her life. She often took walks to her mom's house to visit, and she enjoyed every moment spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also loved to sit outside on sunny days to enjoy the North Carolina weather. Going to the beach and collecting seashells was one of her favorite places to travel. Katherine took great pride in her yard and loved to walk around taking in the beauty of all her spring flowers. She leaves behind not only family that adored her but many special friends that she enjoyed spending time with as well.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm on Saturday, July 3rd at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown followed by a funeral service at 3 pm with Rev. David Kelly Officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Cashwell Cemetery in Bladenboro.
