John "Michael" Shaw

Mr. John "Michael" Shaw, 57, of Southport left his earthly home and stepped into his heavenly home on Friday, April 26, 2024.  Completely healed and made whole.

Michael was born in Henderson County on March 24, 1967 to John Quincy Shaw, Jr. and the late Patricia Blackwell Smith. He was also preceded in death by his mom, Tonia Thompson Shaw.

Michael graduated from East Bladen High School in 1985. He went on to graduate from Pembroke State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Michael trusted his life to Jesus Christ! He was a whole hearted encourager who gave of himself and helped others see the way to accomplish their dreams. He taught his children sound principles, and they honored him and sought his opinion and wisdom. He supported and loved his wife deeply, "I am a blessed man," he would say, "you are my reward on this earth, beautiful." She adored and loved him deeply, she said, "He is a man of integrity in words and deeds. His conduct was consistent and reflected his values and beliefs, regardless of the circumstances." His family and friends sought out his counsel in many areas of life. He was a saver and a planner doing exciting adventures and outings with family and friends. He was a hilarious giver, not only financially, but of his time and his talents. He retired as a Senior Vice President of the Southeast from Family Medical Supply an Adapt Health company. Michael was steady as a tree planted by the rivers of living water. His leaves did not wither, and his fruit abounded in every season. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Gentleness, Goodness, Faithfulness, and Self Control. These were the fruits of his life, and the greatest was Love. He loved us all so well, and would want us to live everyday to the fullest. Loving God with all our hearts, and loving each other by doing all we can with God's help to bless our community.

Michael is survived by his wife, Melissa Shaw; sons: Noah Shaw and wife Hayley, Dylan Jackson and soon-to-be wife Madison Roels; daughters: Skyler Shaw, Morgan Jackson, and Megan Larson; sisters: Susan Shaw Jackson and husband Cory, Tammy Riggan, Angela Shaw, Kay Smith, and Sonya Smith; brother, Larry Smith, Jr. and wife Tammy; stepdad, Larry Smith; several nieces and nephews; grandpups: Henry, Beckley, Hank, Bella and Willow.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 30th. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 3pm at Wesley's Chapel Church in Elizabethtown. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
