John David Ellis, (84) of Bladenboro was born near Evergreen, North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Lena Ellis and his wife Frances Leonard Ellis. John David is survived by his sons, Kirk of Lumberton and Keats of the home, and one brother Charles (Linda) of Bladenboro.
John David was a life-long member of Lennon's Crossroads Baptist Church. He served in various positions over the years to include General Secretary of the Sunday School department, Deacons and grounds keeper. John David worked for decades at Hinson's Supermarket with the Hinson family in downtown Bladenboro and later for Bryan's Supermarket in Bladenboro and Inman's Red and White in Elizabethtown. John David served in the National Guard for 7 years as an E6. He was among the men who helped reorganize the Bladenboro Volunteer Fire Department in 1974 and served for twenty years. He never met a stranger and loved to laugh. He often slipped penny candy to children and bewildered them by whistling like a tweety bird in the aisles of Hinson's Supermarket.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Pine Crest Cemetery in Bladenboro with Rev. Fred Senter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Bladenboro Volunteer Fire Department.
