James Walter Peterson

James Walter Peterson, 83, of Elizabethtown passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 while at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Whiteville. He was born in Bladen County the son of the late Walter Talmage Peterson and Josephine Long Peterson.

 

James was a hardworking, family loving, outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his animals. He was the founder of the Three Pines Hunting Club. In the woods was second nature to him whether he was hunting, fishing or farming. He also enjoyed working with wood. James could fix almost anything.  He was an active member of the Beards Chapel Baptist Church and was always at peace while listening to his favorite gospel songs. He spent 7 years with the Elizabethtown Rescue Unit. A man with a kind heart and generous nature who would lend a helping hand whenever he could.

 

James was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Mark Peterson, sister Barbara Cashwell, daughter Margaret Platt, and stepdaughter Carol Davis. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Pauline Peterson of the home, sons James V. Peterson (Janice) and Paul N. Peterson (Angela), both of Elizabethtown, stepson Billy Averitt (Linda) of Bladenboro, one daughter Patrica Johnson (Alton) of Elizabethtown, one brother Vann N. Peterson of Fayetteville, two grandchildren Ross Johnson ( girlfriend Katie), Savanna Hodge (Chris), step grandchildren Cindy Averitt and Kathleen Davis, and three great grandchildren James Hand, Jordan Williams and Mason Williams.

 

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at 3:00pm at Bladen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends after the graveside service.
