James Albert Pait, Sr., age 93, transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, December 7, 2020. He was born August 19, 1927 to Dayton Asbury and Willie Lane Pait. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Eric Pait. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathleen of Hartselle, Alabama. Also surviving are his three sons: Jim Pait of Elizabethtown, Woody Pait (Kim) of Hope Mills, and Fran (Marie) of Orlando, FL; his daughter, Devona Kilimas (Steve Cooper) of Decatur, AL and son, Dwight Wright (Jeannie) of Priceville, AL; one grandson, Tyler Strickland; one great-grandson, Eric Pait and one great-granddaughter, Paitlynn.
Mr. Pait lived his early years in the Center Roads Community before joining the US Army and serving in the Korean War. Upon leaving the military, Mr. Pait worked and lived in the Philadelphia area. He returned to his beloved Bladen County in 1969 before moving to Hartselle in 1978 where he worked and retired from Goodyear Tire Company.
Mr. Pait was particularly proud that his three sons had each served in a different branch of the military. Between he and his sons, they served in the US Army, US Navy, US Marines and the US Air Force. Mr. “James” loved talking to everyone he met. It wouldn’t take him long to know all your family and how you might have been “kin.” A few minutes spent with him brightened your day and made your heart smile.
A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 12th in the Bladen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Elizabethtown. Rev. Richard Smith will officiate service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the funeral fund of James Pait c/o Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home PO Box 3150 Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
Given the COVID restrictions and an outdoor service, please wear comfortable clothing and a mask.
