James Thomas “Hooker” Hall Sr., 91, U.S. Navy Veteran of Dublin went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Broughton Hall and Eula Mae Allen, his loving wife Martha Lou Brisson Hall, one son Tommy Hall, one grandson Brandon Lee and two brothers, Junior Hall and Brother Hall. Survivors include his daughter, Karen Hall Lee and husband Bill of Elizabethtown, daughter-in-law Billie Sue Hall of Elizabethtown, brother Billy Hall of Tar Heel, four grandchildren, Will Lee, TJ Lee (Kayla), Morgan Hall, and Trey Hall (Cindy) and six great grandchildren.
James graduated from Tar Heel School in 1949, worked for a year with his dad’s family sawmill business and then went on to serve 21 months in the United States Navy. He then returned to Bladen County where he worked with his father-in-law, C.D. Brisson, owner of Southern Peanut Company, for 12 years. James then decided to go into the education field where he served as coach, Industrial Cooperative Training Officer, vocational guidance and finally as principal of Dublin School. He received his master’s degree in School Administration from East Carolina University. He always believed that “What we do with our students will determine which way the United States goes in the future.” James earned the nickname “Hooker” from his baseball days and was the last surviving member of the Dublin Dodgers. He not only believed in a good education but also good morals and strong faith which he let shine through in everything he did. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Dublin, where he served as a deacon, past Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Brotherhood officer, and former choir member. James was a man who honestly cared about his family, his country, his community, and every child he ever taught. He leaves the world a legacy of what it means to be dedicated, educated and motivated.
