Hubert Bryan

Hubert “Huston” Bryan, U.S. Army Veteran of Elizabethtown passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born in Bladen County on July 23, 1930 to the late Albert Bryan and Carrie Dove Bryan.

Huston leaves behind his loving wife, Bernice Bryant Bryan of the home, son Alan Bryan (Cynthia) of Elizabethtown, daughter Sheila Bryan of Elizabethtown, brothers Carlton Bryan of Sanford, and Hearl Lane Bryan of Bladenboro, and one granddaughter, Karen Beth Gatwood (Aaron) of Little River, SC. He was preceded by his parents, seven brothers, Levie Bryan, Lelmer Bryan, Willerdane Bryan, Wade Bryan, Ernest Bryan, Belton Bryan, and Durward Bryan, and three sisters Stenza Lee Lambert, Viola Carter and Gertie Lee Brisson.

Huston loved the Lord and his family. He simply adored his wife of 71 years and especially enjoyed her home cooked meals. He loved family time, working in his yard, tending his garden, and watching his hummingbirds. Over the years, he served in many capacities in the church including Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and Superintendent. He also assisted Mrs. Bryan in making puppets for events at their church and other churches as well. Huston enjoyed the old gospel hymns and could often be found listening to them as well as lifting his voice in the church choir. He always worked in the textile industry and ended it with his retirement from Bladen Sportswear as General Manager. This man of God shared his love, his talents, and his wisdom with all that knew him. He now sings in that heavenly choir and awaits the day when they shall meet again.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Sunday, January 22nd at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 23rd at 2 pm at the Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home and burial will follow the services in the Elizabethtown Cemetery. The Reverend Elton Bryan and Reverend Allen Montgomery will be officiating.
