Mr. Hoke Mercer Parnell, Jr. was born August 2, 1931, in Robeson County. He was the oldest son of Hoke Mercer Parnell and Alma Victoria Singletary Parnell. He went to be with his Savior in Heaven on Sunday, October 10, 2021. He was preceded in death by a son Scotty Lee Parnell, his parents, Hoke Mercer Parnell and Alma Victoria Singletary Parnell, his sisters, Melba F. Conklin, Annie Belle Hilburn and Catherine D. Yarborough and a brother William Ross Parnell. He is survived by his son Craig Parnell, his wife Donna of Opp, Alabama, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a brother Bobby Dale Parnell, Sr., of Bladenboro, N.C.
He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Hoke was a loving brother and uncle, and he valued his life with Christ more than anything in the world. Throughout his life, he was admired and loved by those who knew him (from the very young to the very old). He was retired from the U.S. Army and had earned a Purple Heart after serving in both Vietnam and Korea. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and he was a good cook. He truly loved his savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
There will be a walk through visitation at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Bladenboro, Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 1-2 pm and a graveside funeral at Singletary Cemetery in Butters at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Revelation Church, P.O. Box 748, Bladenboro, NC 28320 or the American Red Cross, 100 N. Peartree Lane, Raleigh, NC, 27610.
