Herbert “Hoover” Butler, 93, of Bladenboro heard the call from heaven on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Hoover leaves behind his loving wife, Margaret Fowler Butler of the home, daughter, Glenda Dale Kirkland of Bladenboro, two brothers: Lee Butler (Brenda) and Alvin Butler, both of Bladenboro, sister Nora Smith of Bladenboro, two grandchildren, Kimberly Barkhurst (Joe) of New Bern and Christopher Kirkland of Cameron and two great grandchildren, Kristano and Kaley. Hoover was preceded in death by his parents, Paisley Butler and Lettie Brisson Butler, two infant children: Dana and Herbert, three brothers: Creston, Harvey, and Ezra “Slim” Butler, five sisters, Mae Lewis, Bertha Meares, Margie Lewis, Artie Smith and Valerie Butler and two sons: Lamont and Elton Butler.
Hoover was born and raised in Bladen County. He was known for his love of NASCAR and his Dodge Drag Racing days. He had won several trophies and still loved to drive his red Dodge. Hoover worked as a roofer in construction for many years of his life. He enjoyed having breakfast with his friends at Hardees every morning and then visit with his wife, Margaret, at Bladen East Rehabilitation Center. Hoover had a love of animals and would often say that was what God put him here for. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend that will always be remembered for his warm smile and his generous heart.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 3:00 pm in the New Pait Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Tatum officiating.
