Geneva Johnson Shaw Perkins, 96, of Elizabethtown went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded by her parents, Cleveland Johnson and Lola Suggs Johnson, six brothers, Percy, Roy, William, Morris, Fletcher and Fay, three sisters, Foyleen, Lydia and Stella and two infant siblings. Geneva leaves behind son Leon Shaw and wife Cynthia of Clarkton, granddaughter Afton Marie Shaw of Clarkton, great grandchild Avery Terri Tolar, and many nieces and nephews.
Geneva was a devoted Christian, mother, and grandmother. She spent a lifetime serving the Lord and her family. Her granddaughter, Afton, was the apple of her eye and she loved to have visits with her and her great grandchild. Geneva was always staying busy with cooking, gardening, or tending her flowers until she was no longer. Anyone can witness what a “green thumb” she had. You would often catch her shelling peas, canning veggies, sewing, or knitting. Geneva had also read through her bible 48 times. She was a caretaker by heart and her compassionate spirit will forever be remembered.
The family will receive friends from 12-1pm on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm with Rev. Kincy Barrow officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Whites Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Clarkton.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to special neighbors, Billy and Vella Rose Babson for always plowing her garden and mowing her grass. They would also like to thank the staff of Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care given to Geneva during her stay.
