Mary Evelyn Merritt Cain, 90, of Bladenboro, NC passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020 in her home surrounded by loved ones and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harmon E. Merritt and Katie Dent Merritt, her husband, William Curtis Cain Sr., one son, William Curtis “Sam” Cain Jr. and four sisters: Bessie Barr, Helen Carter, Katie Smart and Carolyn Merritt.
Evelyn had a full and productive life. She and Curtis owned and operated the Twilight Drive-In Theater. She was an office manager for Lady Allise Fashions. As an entrepreneur, she owned Westside Outlet, Tropical Tan and the Peanut Shack. Through these endeavors she made many friends. Evelyn was a member of West Bladenboro Baptist Church.
Evelyn is survived by her only brother, Adrian Merritt of Evergreen; two daughters: Billie Faye Lewis (Jimmy) of Bladenboro; Donna Kelly (Barry) of Greensboro; one daughter-in-law, Pamela Cain of Bladenboro; three grandsons: George Barry Kelly Jr. of Greensboro; Billy Cain (Heather) of Auroea and Robert Lewis (Andrea) of Lake Waccamaw; two granddaughters: Amelia Herring (Travis) of Chadbourn and Mary Beth Ivey (Zack) of Bladenboro; two great grandsons: Anthony Milano and Austin Lewis; and three great granddaughters: Abigail Herring, Avery Cain and Ally Cain, her loving CNAs: Melody Lewis, Pat Tooten, Mary Simmons, a special hospice nurse, Nicole Dowless and her beloved doctor, Dr. Stephen Bridgers.
A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Officiating the service will be Reverend Oneil Parker of the Church of God of Bladenboro.
