Donna Simmons

Donna Smith Simmons, of Elizabethtown. Passed away peacefully on June 18th.

A native of Bladen County and resident of Elizabethtown, N.C., She was the daughter of the late Willie Sloan and Helen Sarah Norris. She was a member of Wesley Chapel Church and loved serving the Lord and spending time with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Peanut” Smith (1986), and Carlton “Bobby” Simmons (2018), two brothers Willie Hampton Norris and Howard Ashley Norris, two sisters Shirley “Pat” King and Hazel Norris Merritt

Donna is survived by one daughter, Cyndia Smith of the home; one sister, Nita Merrit (Columbia SC); one stepson, Stan Simmons and wife Jennie of Elizabethtown; two stepdaughters: Lynn Brisson and husband Nile and Carla Evans and husband Tony both of Elizabethtown. grandchildren: Heath Britt, Ashley Berdeau and husband Brandon, Krystle Russell; step-grandchildren: Jeff Brisson and wife Tammy, Brittney Allen and husband Jordan, Alex Peterson and husband Daniel, Noah Simmons and wife Aspen, Eli Simmons and wife Kaylie, Ashley Bunnell and husband Trey and Samantha Abernathy and husband David; 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Donna was influenced by her family growing up to be a loving caring woman, who always gave her time to others and the Lord. She was a woman of integrity and honor: she was generous, loving and kind. She loved working in her flower beds, sewing and crocheting. She could be found on her back porch completing a wordsearch or playing in the back yard with grand and great-grandchildren. She was active in her ministry making prayer shawls for the church, Women of Faith, Circle and spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family and friends. Donna was the first to volunteer at church working behind the scenes to insure things ran smoothly never wanting credit. Donna had a servant’s heart and lived by 1 Peter 4:10: “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”

Funeral Services will be held graveside on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 11:00 am at Wesley’s Chapel Church in Elizabethtown with Pastor Jonathon Hayes officiating. The family will receive friends in the Multipurpose Building of the church following the service.
