Cole Auburn Fisher, 70, a lifelong resident of Elizabethtown, passed away after a long illness November 18, 2024. Cole was born in 1954, and was preceded in death by his parents, William (Billy) Fisher and Jean Cole Fisher, also of Elizabethtown.
Cole had a generous heart, and he was a personable and colorful figure to all who knew him. Funny and entertaining, he made friends easily, and he seemed to know everyone. He also enjoyed spinning records to entertain his friends. An authority on Carolina beach music and American soul, Cole’s name was synonymous with the shag culture, and he loved Ocean Drive.
Growing up in a home filled with the love of good music was a big influence on Cole. He learned tenor saxophone and excelled as a top musician in high school band, as well as qualifying for All State Band. Football was also Cole’s passion, and he became a force on both sides of the ball as a tight end and defensive tackle. Cole loved, respected, and became lifelong friends with Mr. Ray Haney, band director, and football coach, Doug Henderson.After high school, Cole began his career in automobile sales where he excelled. Later, he successfully pursued the outdoor billboard business.
Cole is survived by his two sons, Cole Auburn Fisher, Jr. and wife Angie of Knoxville, Tn., Luther (Luke) Griffin Fisher of High Point, NC, and by his granddaughter Lauren. He is also survived by his sister April Lohr and husband Mike of Archdale, NC, his brother Scott and wife Toni of Elizabethtown, NC, a niece and four nephews.
A memorial service for Cole will take place Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2:00pm, at Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church.
