Carolyn Starnes

Carolyn Jean Starnes, 54, of Lumberton passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Betty Joe Freeman; two aunts: Lola Bullard, Judy Valencia and son-in-law, John Barszcz.

Carolyn leaves behind her husband, Reese Starnes of the home; two daughters: Erica Starnes Hales and husband Jerry of Charlotte, Wendy Starnes Barszcz of Chapel Hill; two brothers: Hubert Freeman, Jr. and wife Cindy of Kernersville, Shane Freeman and wife Tina of Mocksville; two sisters: Sabrina Owens and husband Gregory of Fayetteville, Patty Cochran and husband Paul of Ft. Worth, Texas; three grandchildren: Riley Starnes, Caleb Hales and Dominic Hales.

Carolyn cherished the time spent with her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking trips to the beach and mountains. Some of her hobbies included: reading, sitting on her porch, talking on the phone, watching Hallmark Christmas movies and going to Luke Bryan concerts with her special friend, Velisa Maynor. Carolyn always kept an open door for anyone, especially all the extra children she called her own along the way. Her kind and gentle spirit will be remembered forever.

The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Sunday, March 13th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Monday, March 14th in the Brown Marsh Cemetery in Clarkton.
