Burman "Ray" Porter Sr.

d. December 3, 2020

Bladenboro

Burman “Ray” Porter, 76, of Bladenboro went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 3, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Frances Porter, two sisters, Carolyn McKee and Margie Hendrick, and also one sweet grandson, Chay Porter. Ray leaves behind his wife, Janice Porter of the home, children, Burman Ray Porter Jr. (Robin) of Sevierville, TN, Renee Bryan (Gary) of Bladenboro, and Jody Porter (Brenda) also of Bladenboro, one sister, Debbie Wallace (Bill) of Kingsland, GA, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Ray loved family and family gatherings. Next to his love of God, he loved his wife, Janice, whom he was happily married to for 53 years. They built a home together and made many special memories. One of the things they loved to do most was travel to the mountains, with their camper in tow. Ray was immensely proud of their three children. He also had 20 grandchildren that blossomed from his little family. They each one touched Ray’s heart in their own special way. His family was the apple of his eye.

Ray loved his home church, Northside Baptist. He served in many capacities after he surrendered his life to Christ including a deacon and Sunday School superintendent. His dedication to his church was evident in many ways. He had several pins for perfect attendance in Sunday School.

A contract painter by trade, Ray built a successful business of 53 years, Ray Porter Painting Contractor. He took tremendous pride in his business and in the quality of work he performed. Many people knew Ray through his business, and some became close friends. Ray was most satisfied that his two sons worked by his side.

Ray enjoyed living life to its full extent and will be greatly missed by the family and all who knew him. Go Rest High Ray.
