Alice Ellis Adcox

Alice Itlane Ellis Adcox, 78, of Bladenboro passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Bladen County on December 9, 1945, the daughter of the late Sam Ellis and Louise Howell Ellis.

Alice and her husband J.C. Adcox were the owner and operators of Adcox Appliance in Bladenboro for 30 years. She was known all around the community for her love of talking and her big smile. Alice was always a people person. Her little white truck had several miles on it for the many visits and rides she took just to share a good conversation or to make someone’s day brighter. The folks at the local IGA knew her well and always enjoyed it when she came through the door.  Alice always had a can of snuff, a tissue in her pocket and Burney’s freshly made cake in her fridge.

She adored her family, especially her grandchildren and never failed to brag about them a bit in her conversations. She had a love of country music, westerns, Little House on the Prairie, and her beloved community. That little white pickup and bright smile will definitely be missed around the neighborhood for a long time to come but she’s surely sharing an abundance of laughter and love as she joins the many who left before her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her dear husband J.C., son Elvis Jernigan, daughter Donna J. Duckworth, four brothers and one sister. Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Sherlyn Jernigan of Bladenboro, brother Robert Smith of Mooresville, seven grandchildren, Amy Dicicco, Paula Melton, Nichole Gandy, Jason Jernigan, Jonathan Dicicco, April Johansen, and John Jernigan and 15 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home with the Reverend Brian Dicicco officiating. A burial will follow the services in the Singletary Cemetery, off Old Boardman Road in Bladenboro.
