James Dyson Wright, 68, of Elizabethtown passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. He was born in Sampson County on July 6, 1954 to the late Alfred Raymond Wright and Mary Lee Smith Wright. James is survived by his loving wife of 47 plus years, Wanda Wright of the home, son Jonathan Wright of White Lake, one brother David Wright of Asheboro, granddaughter Cassidy Wright, nephew Alfred Wright (Kayla) and niece Linda Mathis (Tyrone). He was preceded in death by his parents and one dear brother, Alfred Wright.
James was a loving brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend. His family was his life, and he enjoyed every minute he got to spend with them. As a blueberry farmer by trade and a Mason of the Garland Lodge, folks always knew where to find him, either in the fields or in the woods. He loved to hunt whether for bear, deer, or birds. He was the president and founder of the “Flat Broke Flats” hunting club and a member of the Beaver Dam Bear Club. If he was not hunting, he was sharing stories of hunting. His hunting dogs were treated like family and his granddaughter loved to tag along with him to the woods to hunt. He loved fishing with his brother-in-law Elwood. Every Sunday afternoon he would meet up with his pals and ride around to gossip like the “women folk do”. He loved everyone and was very close to his brother Alfred who he always felt left him way too soon. The love he shared with his family, his church and his friends is a legacy that will not soon be forgotten.
The family will receive friends from 3-4 pm on Friday, July 22nd at the Colly Chapel in Harrells followed by a funeral service at 4:00 pm with the Reverend Jim Woodruff, and Reverend Ralph Carter Jr. officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Dyson Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
