Mrs. Justyn Ann Cranwell Riel, of White Lake, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.
Mrs. Riel was born October 21, 1927, in Roanoke Rapids, to John Armstrong Cranwell and Daisey Whitby Cranwell. She was married October 8, 1948 to Jack Riel. Justyn graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1947.
While still in school she took a job with the telephone company. This is where she met her husband Jack. The company relocated them to Elizabethtown where Justyn had lived for a few years as a child. Her family joined the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church. Justyn then started working for the Bank of Elizabethtown in 1961. She worked with all the departments of the bank, became Head Teller at the bank’s main office, elected Assistant Cashier, designated Manager of the Tar Heel Office, and later became a manager at Wachovia Bank. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association. Mrs. Riel inherited her father’s love for jazz music and started playing the saxophone in grade school. Since retiring, she has enjoyed her daily crossword puzzle, summers around the lake, and watching her granddaughters grow up.
Survived by son, Thomas Edward Riel and wife Irene Graham Riel; granddaughters, Madison Justyn Riel Romano and husband Paul Romano, Virginia Riel and husband Will Robertson; brother, John Armstrong Cranwell Jr. and wife Fran.

The celebration of life will be held on June 2, 2019 starting at the Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home where the family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm. The service will begin at 3:00 pm at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. David Holloway. Then followed by the burial at the Elizabethtown City Cemetery.
